Dose Two of Chemo was administered on Friday, June 27, 2014 (picture on left). Kelly responded very well to the chemo, just suffering some 'chemo brain' and exhaustion.
Kelly, Jaime and the family celebrated the 4th of July with a huge BBQ at their home. Kelly felt terrific throughout the entire day. (picture on right)

Kelly decided she would not attend the event with a 'patchy' hair-style, so she had her hair fixed special for the occasion! Only our Kelly could make bald looks so darn cute!
Lisa Bickford Hollingsworth gathered many friends and family together to help plan this fabulous event. In addition to the assistance of friends and family, the group collected donations from many wonderful businesses in the St. Charles County area for attendance and silent aution baskets raffled off at the event. But, most importantly ... please continue with those prayers. So far, they have helped tremendously.
The Kelly Team, Friends and Family all pooled together their resources and hosted a marvelous Casino Night Benefit to help offset medical bills mounting in Kelly Wampler Steffen's fight against Breast Cancer.
Kelly's response to the crowd the morning after was posted clearly on Facebook:
"I had this big speech prepared last night and when I got the mic I started to cry and everything left my head and I couldn't talk, writes Kelly.
"There are no words to make everyone know how much we appreciate everything. I hope everyone knows how much we appreciate everything that has been done for us! You all have made all the difference in this battle and thanks to you, we are able to focus on fighting this beast instead of other things. I can not thank you all enough! We are the luckiest people in the world without a doubt!"
Kelly Wampler Steffen underwent a double radical masectomy in late April, is at the end of the reconstructive phase of her treatment and begins simultaneous Chemo Therapy and Radiation on June 6th. Kelly's battle has come fast and swift, beginning in early April. After the mastectomy, tissue tests, etc came back from the lab, Kelly was given the news that the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes and indicated that all the cancer in the chest area may not have been removed. Kelly had surgery to install a cath port in her chest for the administration of IV Chemo Therapy. Then, PET results from the week of May 26th showed that the cancer has, in fact spread to the lymph node area, but shows no sign of it spreading elsewhere. The team of doctors and specialists are moving full speed ahead into the chemo-therapy and radiation phase of Kelly's treatment, with a bright outlook on beating this cancer now.
So, Kelly will begin Chemo with a drug called "The Red Devil". True to it's name, the drug is expected to 'pack a punch', so much so, that Kelly is expected to loose all her hair after the first dose.
What can you do to help? First and most important, keep those prayers coming. It's those prayers that give Kelly and her family the strength to make it through this storm in their lives.
A fun-filled Trivia Night Benefit is planned for June 20th. Details about the event are below:
