Columbia's Wine & Food Festival Features Delectable Cuisine, World-Class Wines

Wine and food enthusiasts from near and far will make their way to Columbia, Mo., this May to indulge in a weeklong celebration of fine wine and sophisticated fare. Inside Columbia magazine's sixth annual Wine & Food Festival runs May 17, 2013. The festival showcases more than 400 international and domestic wines and features the culinary creations of the area's best chefs. It's an event that has come to be regarded as one of the best wine festivals in the Midwest.

This year's festival begins on Friday, May 10, with The Grand Tasting, where attendees can sample from hundreds of wines, visit one-on-one with winery representatives, and indulge in delectable appetizers prepared by festival chefs. Every Grand Tasting attendee receives a keepsake Riedel wineglass.

The festival continues on Saturday with three new events: Farm to Table Shop & Chop, where chefs teach the secrets to selecting and preparing fresh food from the Columbia Farmers Market; Best Of Local Chefs, where select local restaurants offer a three-course prix fixe meal at a special price; and For the Love of Chocolate, a dream-come true for chocolate lovers, and an ideal Mother's Day gift.

On Monday, chef and cookbook author Lou Rook from the St. Louis-area restaurant Annie Gunn's will wow attendees with a four-course feast. Annie Gunn's Wine Director & Sommelier Glenn Bardgett will be on hand to pair each course with a fine Missouri wine. Columbia's own star chefs will take center stage on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings with the new Wine, Dine & Design dinners. Each six-course meal will show off the creativity and talent of two or more chefs; specially selected wines will complement the fare. Tablescapes created by Columbia's leading florists, designers and event planners will add to the evening's ambience.

Purchase tickets at www.ColumbiaWineFest.com, where you'll also find a detailed schedule of events, chef profiles and menus. A special Wine Lover's Weekend ticket combines the May 1011 events in one money-saving package.
